Enterprise Architecture Collaboration Process for Shaping Guidelines and Guardrails
Architecture Catalysts act as the bridge between Enterprise Architecture and the wider organisation. CS-CoE members can approach their respective Catalyst with proposals to standardize a specific artefact (e.g., a technology standard, integration pattern, or architectural principle).
The Architecture Catalyst assesses whether the proposal warrants discussion at the Architecture Council. If appropriate, the topic is brought to the Council, where it is reviewed and a decision is made on whether it should become an official standard or guideline.
Depending on the complexity and scope of the topic, the Architecture Council may establish a time-bound Architecture Workgroup. The Workgroup, composed of Architecture Catalysts and Subject Matter Experts, elaborates the proposal in detail and prepares an Architecture Decision Record (ADR).
The ADR is then reviewed and endorsed by the Architecture Council and subsequently published in the CS-CoE Guidelines and Guardrails.
Example: Gravitee Architecture Review Process
The Gravitee topic was introduced by an Architecture Catalyst during an Architecture Council meeting. The Council endorsed the idea and agreed to further elaborate the proposal.
A dedicated Architecture Workgroup was formed, consisting of Architecture Catalysts and relevant Subject Matter Experts. The group developed a comprehensive ADR, aligned it across the organisation, and submitted it for final endorsement.
Following Council approval, the ADR was formally published as part of the CS-CoE Guidelines and Guardrails.
