Why Landscape Modernization Matters
As part of the xRED Landscape Modernization effort, we are creating a clear and consistent way to assess the current application landscape and define what "modern" should mean for CS COE.
The Landscape Modernization Matrix provides a structured way to baseline applications against common dimensions and maturity levels. This helps identify where the landscape is performing well, where the main gaps are, and where modernization efforts should be prioritized.

Why it matters
This effort helps us:

Why stakeholder support is critical
Stakeholder participation is essential because the quality of the baseline depends on accurate application data, the involvement of the right SMEs, and prioritization that reflects the operational and technical reality of each area.
The assessment is intended to be practical and decision-oriented. It should provide a credible basis for future planning, roadmap discussions, and investment decisions.
What we need from Product Family Leads
Product Family Leads are asked to support the effort by:

Validating and completing the application list for their family

Identifying SMEs who can support the benchmark assessment

Indicating the relative priority of applications for benchmarking
Their contribution ensures that the resulting baseline and roadmap are relevant, actionable, and grounded in the needs of the organization.
How benchmarking will work
For each product family, a technical working session will be organized with representatives from Architecture, the Product Family Lead, and the relevant SMEs.
During the session, the group will review the Landscape Modernization Matrix and assess selected applications against agreed dimensions, such as FAIR maturity, modularization, scalability, and other relevant criteria.
The objective is to create a shared baseline, identify strengths and gaps, and support future prioritization. The assessment should be collaborative, pragmatic, and based on the knowledge of the teams closest to the systems.
